SEOUL EVENTS & SEASONAL GUIDE ✦

What to Do in Seoul
This October 2026

October is one of the busiest and prettiest months to be in Seoul. From light festivals and hanok events to silver grass, design, food and riverside festivals, here are the October 2026 events actually worth knowing about and how I would plan them into a Seoul trip.

Seoul in autumn during October 2026

October is one of those months when Seoul has more going on than you can realistically fit into one trip.

If you are coming to Seoul in October 2026, the difficult part is not finding something to do. It is figuring out which events are actually happening during your dates, which ones are worth crossing the city for, and which ones fit naturally into places you already want to visit.

That is why I would not treat this as a checklist. Seoul is huge, and trying to attend every festival can turn a beautiful autumn trip into hours spent moving between subway lines.

This guide is specifically focused on October 2026. Event dates and schedules can change, so the time-sensitive information in this guide is based on the current published 2026 schedules.

If I had to narrow October down quickly:Go to Seoul Hanok Week or Bitseom in early October, Haneul Park and the Hangang in mid-October, and keep the Seoul BBQ Festival on your late-October calendar if food is your priority.

1. October 2026 at a Glance

October is one of those months when Seoul has more going on than you can realistically fit into one trip, so choosing by date and neighborhood matters.

If you are coming to Seoul in October 2026, you picked a very busy month. The city is moving into proper autumn, outdoor programming is still active, and the calendar includes everything from hanok events and laser art to gardens, silver grass, design, food and Hangang festivals.

I would not try to chase every event on this list. Seoul is huge, and crossing the city several times in one day just because two festivals happen to be running can turn a fun autumn day into hours on the subway. Pick one major event, then build the rest of the day around its neighborhood.

October 2026 Quick Calendar

DatesWhat's Happening
Oct. 2–11Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival
Oct. 2–11Seoul Hanok Week
Through Oct. 27Seoul International Garden Show
Oct. 14–25Seoul Design Week
Oct. 14–18DDP Design Fair
Oct. 16–18Garak Oktober Fest
Oct. 17–23Seoul Silver Grass Festival
Oct. 17–25Hangang River Festival – Fall
Oct. 23–29Seoul Gourmet Week
Oct. 24–25Seoul BBQ Festival
Oct. 29–Nov. 4Seoul Beauty Travel Week
Oct. 30–Nov. 1DDP Autumn Festival

The easiest way to use this guide is by your actual travel dates. Early October is especially good for Nodeul Island, Bukchon and Seochon. Mid-month becomes stronger for design, Haneul Park and the Hangang. The final weekend is particularly good for food-focused plans.

2. See Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom at Nodeul Island

For an early-October night out, this is one of the easiest events to build an evening around.

2. See Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom at Nodeul Island

The 2026 Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival runs from October 2 to 11 at Nodeul Island. Seoul lists the festival hours as 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM and admission is free.

The appeal here is the setting. Nodeul Island sits directly on the Hangang, so this is not an indoor exhibition that happens to be scheduled in autumn. The river, darkness and large-scale light installations are part of the experience. The 2026 theme is built around a light narrative connecting water, fire, soil, air and life.

I would make this an evening plan rather than your entire day. Have dinner first, arrive after sunset, walk the festival, and leave enough flexibility for crowds. If photography is important to you, a weekday is the more appealing choice.

3. Spend a Day Around Seoul Hanok Week

Bukchon and Seochon already make sense together, and Seoul Hanok Week gives you a reason to slow down rather than treating the area as a photo stop.

3. Spend a Day Around Seoul Hanok Week

Seoul Hanok Week runs from October 2 to 11 across Bukchon and Seochon. Seoul says the 2026 edition is the event's largest yet, with 82 programs involving exhibitions, tours, hands-on experiences, performances and other hanok-focused activities.

This is the event I would choose if you want something that feels specifically connected to Seoul rather than a generic seasonal festival. Bukchon and Seochon are two of the best areas for seeing how traditional architecture sits inside a modern city, but they are also residential neighborhoods. Treating the event as a cultural program instead of a checklist of photo spots makes the visit much better.

I would combine this with a palace, a café in Seochon or a walk around Anguk rather than rushing to another festival on the opposite side of Seoul. Individual Hanok Week programs can have their own schedules and participation rules, so check the official program before traveling for one specific workshop or tour.

4. Catch the Seoul International Garden Show Before It Ends

This is a good lower-pressure choice when you want an outdoor autumn day without committing to one crowded festival window.

4. Catch the Seoul International Garden Show Before It Ends

The 2026 Seoul International Garden Show runs through October 27. Its main Seoul Forest edition opened in May with 167 gardens spread across a large area connecting Seoul Forest and the surrounding Seongsu side of the city.

For October specifically, there is also a fall extension at Maeheon Citizen's Forest from October 1 to 27. Seoul announced around 50 gardens for this autumn edition under the theme of a citizens' garden.

If you already want to spend time in Seongsu, the Seoul Forest side is the easiest one to fold into a normal day. Walk the gardens, continue into Seongsu for cafés, shops or dinner, and you have a full day without forcing the festival to carry the entire itinerary.

The Maeheon Citizen's Forest extension makes more sense if the gardens themselves are the priority or if you are already planning time in southern Seoul. I would not cross the city just to squeeze both garden locations into the same day.

5. Make DDP Your Base for Seoul Design Week

Not every October plan needs leaves and traditional culture. This is the stronger pick for design, exhibitions and Dongdaemun.

5. Make DDP Your Base for Seoul Design Week

Seoul Design Week runs from October 14 to 25 at DDP in 2026. This year's theme is "The Design Recipe," with 12 days of design programming that brings together exhibitions, brands, designers and creative-industry events. The DDP Design Fair is scheduled for October 14 to 18 within the wider Design Week period. If you like product design, visual culture, architecture or creative spaces, this is one of the strongest non-traditional-festival choices this month.

This is also one of the easier options to keep for a day when the weather is less cooperative. Dongdaemun gives you indoor spaces, shopping, food and late-night activity around the same area, so a rainy forecast does not automatically ruin the plan.

Program details can vary by date, so check the current official schedule before choosing a specific exhibition, talk or fair. I would use DDP as the anchor and then decide what else to do nearby rather than planning an entire Seoul day around one short design program.

6. Eat and Drink at Garak Oktober Fest

For a casual evening event rather than a full sightseeing day, Garak Mall has one of October's more social food-and-drink festivals.

6. Eat and Drink at Garak Oktober Fest

The 3rd Garak Oktober Fest runs from October 16 to 18 at Garak Mall's third-floor Sky Park. The official Seoul October calendar lists festival hours from 4 PM to 10 PM across all three days, with free admission.

The focus is craft beer from around Korea, seasonal food and an outdoor camping-style atmosphere. That makes this a very different recommendation from Hanok Week or the Silver Grass Festival. I would treat it as an evening food-and-drink plan, not something you need to reserve an entire day for.

It makes the most sense if you are staying on the southeast side of Seoul, already have plans around Songpa, or simply want a casual festival after sightseeing. I would not cross Seoul solely to check it off a list if craft beer and food are not particularly important to you.

7. Go to the Seoul Silver Grass Festival at Haneul Park

This is the October event I would prioritize if what you really want is a visibly autumn-specific Seoul experience.

7. Go to the Seoul Silver Grass Festival at Haneul Park

The 25th Seoul Silver Grass Festival is scheduled for October 17 to 23 at Haneul Park in World Cup Park. The huge fields of silver grass are the reason to go, and the elevated park gives the experience a very different feel from a normal city festival.

The important thing to know is that Haneul Park requires more effort than the photos make obvious. You are going up to a hilltop park, so comfortable shoes and realistic timing matter. If you want the softer late-afternoon light, do not arrive so late that the climb or transport up becomes stressful.

This works particularly well as a half-day autumn plan. World Cup Park, Haneul Park and the wider Mapo area give you enough to work with before or after the festival. I would choose a weekday if possible because the main visual draw is the landscape itself, and it is easier to enjoy when you are not trying to frame every photo around a crowd.

We will also have a separate full Seoul Silver Grass Festival guide because this event deserves much more detail than a monthly roundup can reasonably fit.

8. Pick Your Own Version of the Hangang River Festival

The fall Hangang festival is less about one giant venue and more about choosing the river activity that actually fits you.

8. Pick Your Own Version of the Hangang River Festival

The 2026 Hangang River Festival – Fall runs from October 17 to 25. Unlike a festival where you arrive at one gate and walk around, the program is spread across Hangang locations and includes fitness, food, performances, cruises and water activities.

Some of the official programs are free while others require payment or reservations. Seoul's published lineup includes outdoor workouts at Jamwon Hangang Park, free performances, food programming, yacht and kayak activities, cruises and other riverside events.

There are also recurring October Hangang programs around the festival period. The Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival runs on Sundays through October 25, while the Hangang Outdoor Library at Yeouido is scheduled on Saturdays through the end of October.

My advice is to choose the program first and the park second. "Go to the Hangang Festival" is too vague because the river is enormous. Check the exact venue before leaving, especially when two activities are happening at completely different Hangang parks.

9. End the Month with the Seoul BBQ Festival

If your ideal Seoul event involves food rather than another exhibition, save October 24–25.

9. End the Month with the Seoul BBQ Festival

The 2026 Seoul BBQ Festival takes place October 24 and 25 at Nanji Campground. The festival combines Korean barbecue with the camping and picnic setting of the Hangang area.

Seoul's announced programming includes a Self BBQ Zone, BBQ Masters with professional chefs, BBQ Village with restaurants, performances, a local market and relaxation areas. Some parts of the festival involve reservations, so this is one event where I would not wait until you are standing at the entrance to decide what you want to do.

The city expects traffic congestion and recommends public transportation. Shuttle buses are planned between Digital Media City Station, Mangwon Hangang Park Parking Lot 1 and the festival venue.

10. Put Seoul Gourmet Week on Your Food Calendar

Late October shifts the calendar toward food, making this one to watch if eating well is already a major part of your Seoul trip.

10. Put Seoul Gourmet Week on Your Food Calendar

Seoul's official 2026 event schedule places Seoul Gourmet Week from October 23 to 29. It is a useful one to keep on your radar if your Seoul plans are already built around restaurants, markets and Korean food rather than sightseeing alone.

I would not build a whole day around the name of the festival without checking the individual 2026 program first. Gourmet Week is better approached by finding the specific restaurant, tasting, market or food program that interests you and then fitting that into the neighborhood you were already planning to explore.

It also overlaps with the Seoul BBQ Festival weekend, which makes October 24 and 25 particularly strong dates for anyone who wants food to be a major part of the trip.

11. Finish October with Seoul Beauty Travel Week

If your idea of Seoul includes K-beauty, wellness and lifestyle experiences, the final days of October have their own dedicated festival.

11. Finish October with Seoul Beauty Travel Week

Seoul Beauty Travel Week begins October 29 and continues through November 4. The city describes it as a participatory festival built around Seoul's beauty and lifestyle experiences for both domestic and international visitors.

This is broader than simply shopping for skincare. Seoul is positioning the program around the city's wider beauty, wellness and lifestyle culture, so I would check the current program and choose experiences that genuinely interest you rather than trying to attend everything under the festival umbrella.

The timing also makes this useful for travelers arriving at the very end of October. DDP's Autumn Festival is scheduled to begin October 30 and continue through November 1, giving late-October visitors another event to pair with the city's design and lifestyle programming.

12. How to Plan the Rest of Your October in Seoul

You do not need another festival every day. Leave space for autumn neighborhoods, parks, cafés and flexible plans around the events that actually fit your dates.

12. How to Plan the Rest of Your October in Seoul

If none of the major festivals line up perfectly with your dates, October is still one of the easiest months to enjoy Seoul without a fixed event. Seoul Forest, the Hangang, Namsangol and the city's walkable neighborhoods all work well as flexible autumn plans.

For early October, I would prioritize Hanok Week and Bitseom. Around the middle of the month, Haneul Park, Seoul Design Week and the Hangang become stronger choices. Late October has the densest food and lifestyle calendar, including Gourmet Week, the Seoul BBQ Festival and Seoul Beauty Travel Week.

I would still leave at least one afternoon unscheduled. October weather can completely change which part of Seoul looks best on a particular day, and a clear afternoon is often better spent walking a neighborhood or staying longer at a park than rushing across the city for another event.

Also remember that autumn color does not peak everywhere at exactly the same time. Silver grass, landscaped gardens and red-and-yellow foliage follow different seasonal rhythms, so do not assume every October date will produce the same scenery.

13. FAQ: Seoul in October 2026

Is October a good month to visit Seoul?

Yes. October has a particularly strong outdoor and cultural calendar, with cooler weather and major autumn programming. The tradeoff is that popular festivals and parks can become crowded, especially on weekends.

What are the best Seoul festivals in October 2026?

Some of the strongest options are Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom, Seoul Hanok Week, the Seoul Silver Grass Festival, Hangang River Festival – Fall, Seoul Design Week and the Seoul BBQ Festival. Which is best depends on your travel dates and interests.

Are Seoul's October festivals free?

Many are free to enter, including Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom, but individual activities inside larger festivals can require reservations or fees. The Hangang River Festival, for example, mixes free and paid programming.

When is the Seoul Silver Grass Festival in 2026?

The 25th Seoul Silver Grass Festival is scheduled for October 17–23, 2026 at Haneul Park in World Cup Park.

When is the 2026 Seoul BBQ Festival?

The Seoul BBQ Festival is scheduled for October 24–25, 2026 at Nanji Campground. Some programs use reservations, so check the current official information before visiting.

Do I need reservations for October events in Seoul?

It depends on the event. Large public festivals often have free general areas, but tours, workshops, cruises, food zones and special experiences can require advance booking. Check the individual official program when one activity is important to you.

What is happening in Seoul at the end of October 2026?

Late October is especially busy. Seoul Gourmet Week runs October 23–29, the Seoul BBQ Festival is October 24–25, Seoul Beauty Travel Week begins October 29, and the DDP Autumn Festival begins October 30.

What should I do in Seoul if it rains in October?

Keep a flexible indoor option such as DDP, a museum, shopping or a long café stop. For outdoor festivals, check the organizer's same-day notice because weather can change or cancel individual programs.

15. Final Thoughts

October is one of the easiest months to over-plan in Seoul because there is genuinely so much happening at once. I would resist trying to attend everything.

Instead, start with your actual travel dates and choose one or two seasonal events that fit naturally into the neighborhoods you already want to explore. Early October has some of the strongest cultural and light programming, while the middle and end of the month become especially good for autumn scenery, outdoor festivals and food events.

Haneul Park is the obvious seasonal choice once the silver grass is at its best, but October in Seoul is much bigger than one viral autumn photo spot. Hanok events, the Hangang, design programming and food festivals all give you completely different versions of the city.

Pick the events that actually sound fun to you, leave enough space to enjoy the neighborhoods around them, and check the official schedule again before making a long trip across Seoul for one specific event.
