If you are coming to Seoul in October, you could accidentally plan an entire trip without realizing how many festivals are happening around you. The problem is that they are not interchangeable.
A laser festival on Nodeul Island, an enormous silver-grass landscape at Haneul Park and a cultural night around Deoksugung may all appear under the same "Seoul autumn festival" search, but they give you completely different days.
So instead of listing every event Seoul happens to be hosting, this guide focuses on the autumn festivals that are genuinely useful for a visitor to know about and explains what you are actually going there for.
Dates and programs below were checked against Seoul's current 2026 festival and cultural-event information. Programs can still change because of weather or event operations, so recheck the official page close to your visit.
1. Seoul Autumn Festival Calendar 2026
If you are choosing your Seoul dates around festivals, this is the quickest way to see what overlaps with your trip.
One important warning when using older Seoul autumn guides: event dates move from year to year. Always use the 2026 schedule rather than assuming last year's weekend applies.
2. Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival
October 2–11 at Nodeul Island. This is the one to choose if you want a nighttime festival that feels visually different from a normal Seoul sightseeing day.
Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival is one of the easiest October events to recommend if you want something that actually feels like a festival rather than a market with a few seasonal decorations.
The 2026 festival runs from October 2 through October 11 at Nodeul Island. Seoul's official schedule lists the main festival hours as 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM, and general admission is free.
The focus is large-scale laser and media art along the Hangang. This year's Nodeul Island program is built around a light-art narrative using the elements of water, fire, soil, air and life. In practical terms, you are going for illuminated outdoor installations rather than a traditional Korean festival.
I would choose this over a daytime festival if your Seoul itinerary is already packed. You can spend the day elsewhere and come here after dinner. It also works well for photography, couples and anyone who wants a free evening activity.
3. Seoul Hanok Week
October 2–11 across Bukchon and Seochon. Choose this if you want traditional architecture, cultural programs and an autumn day that still feels connected to Seoul itself.
Seoul Hanok Week is probably the best fit on this list for someone who came to Korea specifically because they want Korean culture rather than a generic seasonal festival.
The fourth Seoul Hanok Week runs from October 2 through October 11 across Bukchon and Seochon. Seoul says the 2026 edition is its largest yet, with 82 programs including exhibitions, tours, hands-on experiences, performances and other events connected to hanok culture.
The important thing to understand is that this is not one fenced festival ground. The programs are spread through Seoul's hanok neighborhoods, which means you should check the particular event you want rather than simply arriving in Bukchon and expecting all 82 activities to be happening in one place.
That format can actually make it better for visitors. You can build a full Jongno day around it, combining a program with palace sightseeing, Seochon, Bukchon, Anguk or Insadong.
4. Nowon Moonlight Walk
October 16–November 8. A longer-running illuminated art walk that makes more sense for a relaxed evening than an all-day festival mission.
Nowon Moonlight Walk is useful because it lasts much longer than most of Seoul's October festivals. The 2026 city festival calendar lists it from October 16 through November 8, so it also works for travelers who arrive after the early-October events are finished.
The experience is built around illuminated art installations along the stream in Nowon. This is more of an evening art walk than a loud festival with a giant main stage, which can be a good thing if you want something slower.
The tradeoff is location. Nowon is in northeastern Seoul, so I would not automatically tell a first-time visitor staying in Hongdae or Myeongdong to cross the city just because the event is free. It makes more sense if you enjoy light art, want to explore outside the central tourist districts, or already have plans in northern Seoul.
5. Seoul Silver Grass Festival
October 17–23 at Haneul Park. This is the most obviously autumn-looking festival on the list, but getting up to Haneul Park takes more effort.
If your mental picture of autumn in Seoul is a huge field of silver grass glowing in warm light, this is the festival you are probably looking for.
The 25th Seoul Silver Grass Festival runs from October 17 through October 23 around Haneul Parkin Seoul World Cup Park. Seoul describes it as an ecological and cultural festival built around Haneul Park's silver-grass landscape, with seasonal lighting among the festival elements.
Unlike the Nodeul Island light festival, the landscape itself is the main attraction here. That means the experience depends heavily on weather, light and crowds. If photography is your priority, I would give yourself enough time to arrive before the best light rather than showing up just before sunset.
Haneul Park also requires more walking and effort than an event beside a subway station. Do not schedule it between two tightly timed reservations. Treat it as the main activity for that part of your day.
6. Hangang River Festival: Fall
October 17–25 across Hangang Parks. Do not think of this as one festival ground: it is a collection of fitness, food, performance and river programs.
Hangang River Festival is the event on this list most likely to confuse visitors because there is no single place where you arrive and suddenly see the entire festival.
The fall edition runs from October 17 through October 25 across the Hangang and its parks. Individual programs take place at locations including Jamwon, Banpo, Ttukseom, Yeouido and other riverside areas.
The program is unusually broad. Seoul's current schedule includes outdoor workouts, food programs, performances, water activities, cruises and other events. Some are free, while others require reservations or separate fees.
The smartest way to use this festival is to choose a specific program first and then go to the correct Hangang park. Do not simply type "Hangang River" into a map and assume you will find everything.
7. Seoul BBQ Festival
October 24–25. This is the food-focused choice, and the one I would check most carefully for reservations before showing up.
Seoul BBQ Festival is for the person who looked at all the art installations and nature festivals above and thought, "Okay, but where is the food?"
Seoul's official October festival calendar lists the 2026 Seoul BBQ Festival for October 24 and 25. The format is built around Korean barbecue and food experiences rather than foliage or light art.
This is also the festival where I would pay the most attention to reservation instructions. Food events can have separate zones, timed programs or limited-capacity experiences, so do not assume that every part of the festival works like an open street market.
If Korean food is one of the main reasons you are visiting Seoul, this can be much more memorable than adding another generic autumn park to your itinerary. If you are vegetarian or simply do not care about barbecue, there are much stronger choices elsewhere on this list.
8. Jeongdong Night Walk
October 29–31 around Jeongdong. A late-October cultural night out that works especially well if you prefer historic Seoul to giant festival stages.
Jeongdong Night Walk is one of the best late-October options because the setting does a lot of the work. Jeongdong already has Deoksugung's stone wall, historic buildings and a very different atmosphere from Seoul's modern entertainment districts.
The 2026 Seoul festival calendar lists the event from October 29 through October 31. It is particularly useful for travelers arriving too late for the Silver Grass Festival or the main Hangang fall festival dates.
I would choose this if you want an evening that feels more cultural and atmospheric than high-energy. It also fits naturally into a central Seoul itinerary because City Hall, Deoksugung, Jeongdong and nearby districts are easy to combine.
Like many multi-venue cultural events, individual programs can differ by day. Check the current program before deciding exactly when to visit rather than assuming every venue is open for the entire festival.
9. Which Festival Should You Actually Choose?
You absolutely do not need to attend every festival just because your dates overlap. Choose the one that gives you something your normal Seoul itinerary does not already have.

12. Final Thoughts
Seoul's autumn festival calendar is good enough that I would absolutely check it before finalizing an October itinerary, but I would not reorganize an entire trip just to collect festivals.
Seoul Light Hangang is the easiest choice if you want a visually impressive free night out. Seoul Hanok Week makes more sense if Korean culture is the reason you came. Haneul Park is the obvious pick for classic autumn scenery, while the BBQ Festival is for people whose travel plans eventually turn into food plans anyway.
The best strategy is to find the festival already happening near something else you wanted to do. That way the event improves your Seoul day instead of turning into three hours of transportation for a festival you only stay at for thirty minutes.
And recheck the official schedule shortly before going. Autumn festivals are especially exposed to weather, and individual programs can have different reservation rules even when the main festival itself is free.
