1. First: Where Exactly Is Lotte World Aquarium?

♡ It is inside the Lotte World Mall complex in Jamsil, which makes it extremely easy to combine with the rest of the neighborhood.

Lotte World Aquarium is at 300 Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu, Seoul, inside the huge Lotte World complex in Jamsil. The aquarium itself extends across B1F and B2F, so once you enter, you gradually move through the different habitats rather than staying on a single floor.

The easiest way to get here by public transportation is Jamsil Station, which is served by Seoul Subway Lines 2 and 8. One thing I would warn first-time visitors about is that the whole Lotte complex is enormous. Lotte World Adventure, Lotte World Mall, Lotte World Tower, Seoul Sky and the aquarium are all around the same area, so simply knowing that something is "at Lotte World" is not always enough. Follow the signs for the aquarium once you are inside the mall complex.

I actually like this location more because the aquarium does not have to be your entire Jamsil day. You can eat before going in, shop in the mall, visit Seokchon Lake, get dessert, or stay around for dinner afterward. If you are already spending a day in Jamsil, fitting the aquarium into the later part of the day makes a lot of sense.

2. I Went After 5 PM, and I Would Do It Again

♡ I did not feel like I needed an entire day here, which is why the later visit worked so well for me.

I went to the aquarium after 5 PM and got a substantial discount when I bought my ticket at the counter. More importantly, I still had enough time to see everything I personally wanted to see before closing. I never felt like I had paid for a shortened experience just because I entered later.

That is why, from my own experience, I would personally choose an evening visit again instead of automatically arriving in the morning. Unless you are coming specifically for scheduled animal programs or want to examine every tank extremely slowly, you probably do not need to dedicate your entire day to the aquarium. A few hours felt comfortable for us.

There is an important catch, though. The discount I received should not be treated as a permanent "after 5 PM ticket." Lotte World Aquarium runs changing promotions, payment discounts and seasonal offers. Check the official benefits page for your date rather than assuming that the same deal I received in August will still exist.

The aquarium currently publishes operating hours of 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM, but hours and last-entry conditions can change. If you want to copy my evening strategy, check the official website on the day you visit.

3. There Were Way More Animals Than I Expected

♡ The fun part was how quickly the aquarium changed from tiny colorful fish to animals I absolutely did not expect to see.

I expected fish, obviously. What I did not expect was how much variety there would be. We saw piranhas, brightly colored fish, pufferfish, a moray eel, an octopus, huge fish that looked almost unreal beside the smaller tanks, an alligator, sea otters, penguins, a capybara, sharks, a sea turtle and a beluga whale.

The aquarium is much more fun when you are not rushing from "famous animal" to "famous animal." Some of my favorite moments were completely random. I watched a sea turtle playing around bubbles underwater. A pufferfish passed almost directly above me. We stopped at the moray eel because it looked so strange tucked into its habitat. And yes, I also have a video of a penguin pooping, which was probably not the educational marine-life encounter the aquarium intended, but it was memorable.

This is also why I would not judge the aquarium only by a checklist of its biggest animals. A lot of the entertainment comes from stopping when something catches your attention and watching it for a while.

4. Walking Under the Sharks Was One of the Best Parts

♡ The tunnel is one of those aquarium experiences that is much better in motion than it looks in a normal photo.

One of my favorite parts was the underwater tunnel. Instead of looking straight into a tank from the side, you are surrounded by glass and can watch the animals move above you. Seeing a shark swim directly overhead is completely different from seeing one across a tank.

This is also one of the places where I would slow down rather than treating the aquarium like a route you need to finish. People naturally move through the tunnel, so if you wait a little, you can often get a much better view than if you just follow the group directly in front of you.

If you are taking photos or videos, look upward as much as forward. Some of the coolest clips happen when a ray, shark, pufferfish or another large fish passes above the glass. Videos work particularly well here because a still photo cannot really capture the feeling of the animal moving over your head.

5. The Beluga and Sea Otters Were Worth Stopping For

♡ Some animals made us stay at the tank much longer than we originally planned.

The beluga was one of the animals I was most excited to see. It is hard to understand the scale and movement from a photo, so this was another part where I was much happier filming video. Watching it move through the water was one of those quiet aquarium moments where everyone around the tank naturally stops for a while.

The sea otter was almost the opposite experience. Instead of feeling calm and enormous, it was entertaining because there was always something to watch. Lotte World Aquarium also runs animal ecology presentations, although those schedules are time-specific. If seeing a presentation matters to you, entering later in the evening may mean missing it.

That is the main tradeoff with my after-5 recommendation. I think evening admission is excellent for people who mainly want to explore the aquarium itself. If your priority is scheduled feeding sessions, ecology talks or children's programs, check the daily program schedule first and plan around that instead.

6. Do Not Rush Past the Capybara, Octopus and Stranger Creatures

♡ The aquarium is more entertaining when you give the less obvious animals some attention too.

I was not expecting a capybara to be part of my aquarium visit, but there it was. The freshwater and rainforest areas help break up the experience so it does not feel like one endless sequence of blue fish tanks.

I also loved the animals that were a little uglier or stranger. The moray eel looked almost prehistoric, the octopus was fascinating to watch move, and some of the giant fish made the people standing beside the tank look tiny. The piranhas were another tank I wanted a proper photo of because they are one of those fish everyone recognizes by reputation.

If you are visiting with someone, this variety also makes the aquarium a surprisingly easy date. There is constantly something new to react to, but you can still walk around and talk without needing to follow a rigid activity.

7. Mulbit Garden Was Breathtaking

♡ I happened to visit while the new Aqua Gallery Mulbit Garden was running, and it completely changed the end of the experience.

The biggest surprise of my August visit was Aqua Gallery Mulbit Garden, or 물빛정원. I initially thought of the aquarium mainly as a place to see animals, but this area felt much more immersive and atmospheric. The combination of water, light, color and the surrounding aquarium made it genuinely beautiful rather than feeling like an extra display added to fill space.

I visited in August 2026, shortly after the exhibition had opened. According to Lotte World Aquarium, Aqua Gallery Mulbit Garden opened on July 16 and is scheduled to run on B2F through December 31, 2026. That makes this part of my experience seasonal rather than something I would promise every future visitor will see.

If you are visiting while it is still running, I would absolutely give yourself time here instead of walking through quickly because you are near the end of the aquarium. It was one of the prettiest areas of the entire visit and one of the reasons my August trip felt particularly worth it.

8. How I Bought My Ticket, and How I Would Book Now

♡ I simply walked up to the counter, but it is worth checking online before copying exactly what I did.

I did not make a reservation. We arrived at the aquarium, went to the ticket counter and bought our tickets there. For my visit, that was completely fine. I would not tell everyone to automatically buy the normal counter ticket, though, because Lotte World runs a lot of changing promotions.

The currently published standard admission is ₩37,000 for adults and youth and ₩33,000 for children and seniors. There is also an Aquarium + Seoul Sky package. Lotte World currently advertises a website-member discount on general aquarium admission as well, and additional card or payment promotions can appear separately.

My strategy would therefore be simple: first open the aquarium's official ticket and benefits pages, compare the promotion for your date with the regular admission price, and then decide whether to book online or buy at the staffed counter. If you find a good evening promotion like I did, that is when I think the value becomes especially good.

If you are a tourist without access to Korean card promotions, do not assume the giant discount advertised on one promotion page applies to you. Read the payment and eligibility requirements first. Some offers are tied to a particular Korean card, app or payment method.

9. How Much Time Do You Actually Need?

♡ For a normal visit focused on exploring and taking photos, I would not block out an entire day.

Based on my visit, I would personally allow around two to three hours. That gives you enough time to stop at animals you actually care about, take pictures, film videos, enjoy the tunnel and spend time in the more atmospheric areas without feeling like you need to run.

You can obviously spend longer if you read every information board, have children, attend scheduled programs or simply love aquariums. On the other hand, I would not arrive first thing in the morning just because you think the aquarium automatically requires a full-day commitment. For me, it absolutely did not.

That is why I liked putting it later in the day. Jamsil has enough to do that you can use the daytime elsewhere and then make the aquarium your main late-afternoon or evening activity. The only thing you sacrifice is access to some earlier scheduled animal programs.

10. And Yes, There Is a Gift Shop at the End

♡ The aquarium exit conveniently gives you one final opportunity to become emotionally attached to a sea animal and buy it in plush form.

After finishing the aquarium, you come out into the shopping area, so leave a little time if you like souvenirs. This is especially dangerous after spending the previous few hours deciding that an otter, penguin, shark or beluga is now your favorite animal.

I would treat the gift shop as a fun extra rather than a reason to visit. You can browse aquarium-themed souvenirs and character goods before heading back into the wider Lotte World Mall complex. If you are traveling with children, you may want to mentally budget for this part before walking in.

The convenient thing is that your day does not really end when the aquarium ends. You are still in Jamsil, surrounded by restaurants, cafés, shopping, Seokchon Lake and the rest of the Lotte World area. That is another reason I think the aquarium works so well as a later-day activity.
